Regular Season Round 19: Crocodiles - Taipans 85-68

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 6th ranked Cairns Taipans (12-16) lost to seventh ranked Townsville Crocodiles (11-17) in Wulguru 68-85 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Townsville Crocodiles. Cairns Taipans was better in second period 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Cairns Taipans 36-21 including 28 on the defensive glass. It was a very good performance for power forward Nicholas Kay (205-92, college: Metro St.) who helped to win the game recording 12 points and 9 rebounds. Egyptian-American center Omar Samhan (211-88, college: St.Mary's, CA) contributed with 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Townsville Crocodiles players scored in double figures. International guard Cameron Gliddon (196-89, college: Concordia Irvine) answered with 16 points and the former international swingman Stephen Weigh (198-87) added 14 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Cairns Taipans. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Townsville Crocodiles maintains seventh place with 11-17 record. Loser Cairns Taipans keep the sixth position with 16 games lost.
