Regular Season Round 22: EWE Baskets - Telekom Bsk 99-87

Everything went according to plan in Oldenburg where fourth ranked EWE Baskets (15-6) beat 13th ranked Telekom Baskets (8-14) 99-87 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 99-87. EWE Baskets shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 56.0 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American swingman Rickey Paulding (196-82, college: Missouri) scored 19 points and 6 assists (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import center Brian Qvale (210-88, college: Montana, agency: Pensack Sports) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. EWE Baskets' coach Mladen Drijencic used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side American power forward Yancy Gates (206-89, college: Cincinnati) responded with 20 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and naturalized American forward Isaiah Philmore (203-89, college: Xavier) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his ten free throws !!!). Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. EWE Baskets have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Telekom Baskets dropped to the twelfth position with 14 games lost. EWE Baskets will face Phoenix Hagen (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Telekom Baskets will play against Giessen 46ers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
