Regular Season Round 37: Tokyo Cinq R. - Sendai 89ers 89-102

BJ League top team - Sendai 89ers (24-9) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat twelfth ranked Tokyo Cinq R. (1-30) 102-89. Tokyo Cinq R. was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Sendai 89ers dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Tokyo Cinq R.'s 46. They outrebounded Tokyo Cinq R. 39-24 including 18 on the offensive glass. Sendai 89ers players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Tokyo Cinq R.'s players. Tokyo Cinq R. was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American players dominated also this game. Guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 16 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals for the winners and power forward Jamal Boykin (203-87, college: California) chipped in 19 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Sendai 89ers' coach Shuto Kawachi allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side guard Ryan Sypkens (193-91, college: Cal-Davis) responded with 30 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals and center John Florveus (211-90, college: Georgia) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers maintains first place with 24-9 record, which they share with Shimane SM. Tokyo Cinq R. lost twenty fourth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with 30 games lost. Sendai 89ers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tokyo Cinq R. will play again at home against the league's leader Sendai 89ers (#1) to get more than just one victory in their record.
