Regular Season Round 18: Aishin SH - Hokkaido L. 101-99 OT

Sixth-ranked Hokkaido L. (14-19) was very close to win a game against third ranked Aishin Sea Horses (23-8) in Kariya on Saturday. Aishin Sea Horses managed to secure only two-point victory 101-99. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 37-16 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 13-11. Hokkaido L. was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for the former international center J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. The former international guard Makoto Hiejima (190-90) contributed with 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American forward Jerome Tillman (201-87, college: Ohio, agency: Inception Sports) replied with 40 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Jahmar Thorpe (198-84, college: Houston) added 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Hokkaido L.Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Aishin Sea Horses have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains third position with 23-8 record having six points less than leader Toyota Alvark. Hokkaido L. at the other side keeps the sixth place with 19 games lost. Aishin Sea Horses will face Nishinomiya S. (#11) in Hyogo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hokkaido L. will play at home against Dragonflies (#9) and hope to win that game.
