There was an upset when higher ranked Trieste (10-11) was edged on the road by sixteenth ranked Matera (3-18) 84-83 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 8 points after three quarters before their 26-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Trieste outrebounded Matera 34-19 including a 13-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. Trieste was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Czech center Jiri Hubalek (208-82, college: Iowa St., agency: Interperformances) stepped up and scored 22 points for the winners and American point guard Brian Chase (178-81, college: Virginia Tech) chipped in 19 points. The best for the losing side was American forward Jordan Parks (201-94, college: N.C.Central, agency: Two Points) with 22 points and the former international point guard Andrea Pecile (187-80) scored 18 points. Trieste's coach Eugenio Dalmasson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Matera maintains sixteenth place in A2 with 3-18 record. Trieste at the other side keeps the tenth position with 11 games lost. Matera will face higher ranked Bologna Etern. (#9) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
