There was a small surprise in Sao Paulo where ninth ranked Rio Claro (10-13) beat 7th ranked Vivo/Franca (10-11) 70-64 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 22-14 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Rio Claro outrebounded Vivo/Franca 39-22 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for the former international Guilherme Teichmann (206-83, college: Tulsa) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. Point guard Eric Romualdo (185-83) helped adding 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Rio Claro players scored in double figures. Rio Claro's coach Dede Barbosa allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Forward Thiago Mathias (206-89, college: N.Mexico JC) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international Bruno Irigoyen (196-92) scored 18 points and 4 assists. Rio Claro maintains ninth place with 10-13 record. Loser Vivo/Franca dropped to the eighth position with 11 games lost. Rio Claro will meet higher ranked SKY/Basquete (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vivo/Franca will play against Sao Jose/Vinac (#11) and hope to secure a win.
