Regular Season Round 19: Estela - Zarautz 71-40

Date: February 20, 2016
Not a big story in a game in Santander where 14th ranked Zarautz (3-12) was outplayed by third ranked Estela (12-3) 71-40 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Estela. Zarautz was better in second period 9-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Zarautz to just 3 points in fourth quarter. Estela dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Zarautz's 24. They outrebounded Zarautz 56-24 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Estela looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Zarautz's players. Pablo Sanchez (198-81) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. American guard Riley Stockton (192-92, college: Seattle Pacific) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Estela's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players saving starting five for next games. Aitzol Eguskitza (193-90) produced 10 points and forward Julen Egana (190-96) added 7 points respectively for lost side. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Estela. They moved-up to second place in Group A-A, which they share with Santurtzi. Zarautz lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the twelfth position with 12 games lost. Estela will face Santurtzi (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Zarautz will play against La Fecha (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
