Regular Season Round 20: Gniezno - AZS PP 78-93

Rather expected game when bottom-ranked Gniezno (0-20) was defeated at home by ninth ranked AZS PP (7-13) 93-78 on Saturday. AZS PP dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Gniezno's 38. They outrebounded Gniezno 42-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. AZS PP looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of center Szymon Budnikowski (200-84) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and Albert Krawiec (188-94) who added 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Guard Piotr Golasinski (187-86) responded with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and Michal Kafarski (192-92) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gniezno's coach Arkadiusz Konowalski gave the chance to play for ten players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. AZS PP moved-up to eighth place in Group D, which they share with Olesnica. Newly promoted Gniezno still closes the standings with 20 games lost. AZS PP will face higher ranked Miedzychod (#4) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Gniezno will play against Sudety (#5) in Jelenia Gora and hopes to get finally their first victory.
