Date: February 23, 2016
Rather expected game when 11th ranked Sao Jose/Vinac (7-15) lost at home to eighth ranked Vivo/Franca (11-11) 82-70. The game was mostly controlled by Vivo/Franca. Sao Jose/Vinac was better in fourth quarter 18-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vivo/Franca made 21-of-27 charity shots (77.8 percent) during the game. Vivo/Franca outrebounded Sao Jose/Vinac 40-24 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Sao Jose/Vinac was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Thiago Mathias (206-89, college: N.Mexico JC) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and guard Caue Borges dos Santos (180-91) who added 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was American point guard Jamaal Smith (175-85, college: N.Mexico) with 12 points and 6 assists and his fellow American import guard Scott Rodgers (191-87, college: Drexel, agency: DTMones) scored 10 points and 4 assists. Sao Jose/Vinac's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vivo/Franca maintains eighth position with 11-11 record. Sao Jose/Vinac lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 15 games lost. Vivo/Franca will play against higher ranked Mogi (#6) in Mogi das Cruzes in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Sao Jose/Vinac will play at home against the league's second-placed Paschoalotto/Bauru (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
