Eleventh-ranked Sao Jose/Vinac (7-16) gave a tough game to second ranked Paschoalotto/Bauru (18-5) on Thursday. The visitors from Bauru managed to secure only two-point victory 62-60. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 12-5. But Sao Jose/Vinac won second period 16-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Paschoalotto/Bauru dominated on the defensive end, holding Sao Jose/Vinac to just 5 points in first quarter. International Leonardo Meindl (201-93) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and the former international guard Alex Garcia (191-80, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 13 points. Paschoalotto/Bauru's coach Demetrius Ferraciu used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American guard Scott Rodgers (191-87, college: Drexel, agency: DTMones) responded with 14 points and the other American import point guard Jamaal Smith (175-85, college: N.Mexico) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). Four Sao Jose/Vinac players scored in double figures. Paschoalotto/Bauru have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain second place with 18-5 record having just one point less than leader Flamengo. Sao Jose/Vinac lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 16 games lost. Paschoalotto/Bauru are looking forward to face Universo/Vitoria (#14) in Salvador in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Sao Jose/Vinac will play on the road against Paulistano in Sao Paolo and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
