Regular Season Round 10: Sampaio - America de Recife 76-79

The most exciting game of round 10 in the LBF took place in Sampaio Basquete. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of one of their biggest challengers Sampaio (11-3) to second ranked America de Recife (11-3) 79-76 in the game for the second place. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Sampaio won third quarter 20-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Sampaio 36-22 including 26 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Jennifer Lacy (191-83, college: Pepperdine) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 6 rebounds. The former international center Erika De Souza (197-82, agency: Josep and Nicolas) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four America de Recife players scored in double figures. American guard Erica Wheeler (170-91, college: Rutgers) replied with 22 points and 4 steals (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and the former international swingman Iziane Castro Marques (182-82, agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 14 points in the effort for Sampaio. Sampaio's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. America de Recife have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 11-3 record behind leader Corinthians, which they share with defeated Sampaio. America de Recife is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Pres.Valceslau (#6) at home in the next round. Sampaio will have a break next round.
