Regular Season Round 25: Trier - Koeln Rh.Stars 78-57

Very expected game in Trier where 11th ranked Koeln Rh.Stars (10-14) were crushed by sixth ranked Gladiators (15-11) 78-57 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Gladiators. Koeln Rh.Stars was better in second period 23-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gladiators dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Koeln Rh.Stars' 28. Center Justin Raffington (206-91, college: Florida Atlantic) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners and American swingman Brandon Spearman (190-91, college: Hawaii) chipped in 21 points. Spearman is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Gladiators players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard David Downs (188-91, college: Seattle Pacific, agency: Two Points) responded with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his twelve free throws !!!) and the other American import forward Aaron Jones (206-93, college: Mississippi) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Gladiators. They maintain sixth place with 15-11 record. Koeln Rh.Stars lost their sixth game in a row. Newly promoted team keep the eleventh position with 14 games lost. Gladiators will face bottom-ranked Dragons Rhoendorf (#16) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Koeln Rh.Stars will play against White Wings (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
