Regular Season Round 28: Bucaneros - Guaiqueries 68-73

The most important game in the last round took place in La Guaira between second ranked Bucaneros (15-9) and fifth ranked Guaiqueries (11-10) on Tuesday night. Bucaneros were defeated by Guaiqueries in a tough game at home 68-73. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Bucaneros. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 24-13. But Bucaneros won third quarter 20-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of Dominican Victor Liz (188-86) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 8 rebounds and guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-91) who added 18 points during the contest. Four Guaiqueries players scored in double figures. At the losing side Dominican guard Juan Coronado (193-83) responded with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and Spanish-Dominican Orlando Sanchez (206-88, college: St.John's) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Guaiqueries have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 11-10 record. Bucaneros at the other side keep the second place with nine games lost. Guaiqueries will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Bucaneros will play again at home against Guaiqueries and are hoping to win this game.
