Not a big story in a game in Santa Cruz where 11th ranked Gran Canaria (6-12) was defeated by seventh ranked Tenerife Naut. (10-7) 85-80 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Tenerife Naut. made 31-of-39 free shots (79.5 percent) during the game. Gran Canaria was plagued by 34 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Roberto de la Rosa (193-85) stepped up and scored 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and Swedish point guard Valter Lindstrom (180-95) chipped in 23 points. The best for the losing side was guard Joaquin Portugues (185-95) with 17 points and Lithuanian center Rokas Gadiliauskas (205-98) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Tenerife Naut. moved-up to fifth place in Group B. Gran Canaria lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 12 games lost. Tenerife Naut. will face Casvi (#14) in Villaviciosa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gran Canaria will play at home against Real Madrid II and hope to win that game.
