Tenth-ranked BV Chemnitz 99 (11-15) made lots of trouble for first ranked Science City Jena (23-3) on Sunday. Science City Jena managed to secure only three-point victory 81-78. However their fans expected much easier game. Science City Jena forced 20 BV Chemnitz 99 turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. 28 personal fouls committed by BV Chemnitz 99 helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard Marcos Knight (188-89, college: Middle Tenn.St.) who scored 20 points and 4 assists. Lars Wendt (190-92) chipped in 20 points and 4 assists. American forward Greg Logins (203-88, college: Canisius, agency: HMS) produced a double-double by scoring 29 points and 18 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and his fellow American import point guard Virgil Matthews (188-83, college: Montana, agency: Court Side) added 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Science City Jena have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 23-3 record. BV Chemnitz 99 lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the tenth place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Hanau. Science City Jena are looking forward to face Gladiators (#6) in Trier in the next round where they are favorite. BV Chemnitz 99 will play at home against Finke Baskets (#13) and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
