No shocking result in a game when ninth ranked Vivo/Franca (12-13) beat 13th ranked Universo/Vitoria (7-18) in Salvador 78-72 on Friday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Universo/Vitoria won third quarter 24-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vivo/Franca made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game. Universo/Vitoria was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for the former international Bruno Irigoyen (196-92) who led his team to a victory with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Point guard Matheus Costa (179-80) contributed with 12 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Spanish Alvaro Calvo (202-83, agency: Dynamics Global Management) answered with 20 points and 8 rebounds and Ghanian guard Kojo Mensah (185-85, college: Buffalo St.) added 14 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) in the effort for Universo/Vitoria. Universo/Vitoria's coach Regis Marrelli rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vivo/Franca moved-up to eighth place. Newly promoted Universo/Vitoria keeps the thirteenth position with 18 games lost. Vivo/Franca will face Liga Sorocaba (#12) in Sorocabana in the next round. Universo/Vitoria will play on the road against Caxias do Sul and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
