Regular Season Round 22: Aishin SH - Tochigi Brex 59-94
Date: March 12, 2016
The game between Top Four teams took place in Kariya. One of their biggest challengers host Aishin Sea Horses (27-12) were smashed by second ranked Tochigi Brex (31-7) 94-59. It looked good early as Aishin Sea Horses took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Tochigi Brex had a 29-14 second period charge getting the lead and Aishin Sea Horses were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 59-94. Tochigi Brex shot 62.7 percent from the field. They outrebounded Aishin Sea Horses 34-20 including a 23-9 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Tochigi Brex especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 64.7 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Aishin Sea Horses' players. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Ryan Rossiter (204-89, college: Siena) who helped to win the game recording 27 points and 9 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). The former international swingman Takatoshi Furukawa (190-87) contributed with 29 points for the winners. Furukawa is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American power forward Gavin Edwards (206-88, college: Connecticut) replied with 7 points and 6 rebounds and his fellow American import center Isaac Butts (208-89, college: Appalachian St.) added 7 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Aishin Sea Horses. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Tochigi Brex have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 31-7 record behind leader Toyota Alvark. Defending champion Aishin Sea Horses keep the third place with 12 games lost. Tochigi Brex's next round opponent will be league's leader Toyota Alvark in Tokyo and it will be for sure the game of the week. Aishin Sea Horses will play at home against Toshiba Thunders and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
