Regular Season Round 22: El Olivar - Cambados 78-72

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Zaragoza where 12th ranked Cambados (8-14) was defeated by thirteenth ranked El Olivar (7-15) 78-72 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 23-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Marc Marti (204-97) scored 20 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Tyler Gaffaney (193-92, college: Claremont-Mudd) chipped in 15 points and 4 assists during the contest. Gaffaney is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side Georgian center Shota Gelazonia (205-94) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds and Cape Verdean-Portuguese forward Joel Almeida (195-85, college: Brockport St.) scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Four Cambados players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted El Olivar maintains thirteenth position with 7-15 record. Loser Cambados dropped to the eleventh place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Zornotza. El Olivar will meet higher ranked Blancos de Rueda (#10) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Cambados will play against Meridiano Alicante and hope to secure a win.
