Ninth-ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (12-15) used its home court advantage to challenge fourth ranked Kirchheim Knights (20-9) on Sunday. The visitors from Kirchheim managed to secure only four-point victory 82-78. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 14-4 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in double-overtime eventually winning that period 14-5. Kirchheim Knights dominated on the defensive end, holding MLP Academics Heidelberg to just 4 points in third quarter. They made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Kirchheim Knights looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. MLP Academics Heidelberg was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Richard Williams (177-87, college: San Diego St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points, 7 rebounds and 13 assists. The other American import forward Dennis Tinnon (203-88, college: Marshall) contributed with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Four Kirchheim Knights players scored in double figures. American forward Devin White (203-88, college: SUNO) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks and naturalized Russian forward Albert Kuppe (200-88) added 18 points in the effort for MLP Academics Heidelberg. Kirchheim Knights maintains fourth position with 20-9 record. MLP Academics Heidelberg lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh place with 15 games lost. Kirchheim Knights will face Nuernberg (#8) in Nurnberg in the next round. MLP Academics Heidelberg will play on the road against Finke Baskets in Paderborn and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
