Regular Season Round 27: Caen - Lourdes 98-72

The game between second ranked Lourdes-Tarbes (17-10) and seventh ranked Caen (16-11) was the most important one in the last round on Friday night. Lourdes-Tarbes was crushed by Caen in Caen 72-98. The game was mostly controlled by Caen. Lourdes-Tarbes managed to win second period 21-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Caen dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Lourdes-Tarbes' 46. They outrebounded Lourdes-Tarbes 47-27 including a 33-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Caen looked well-organized offensively handing out 36 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Caen made 7 blocks. It was a good game for American Bill Clark (200-88, college: Duquesne) who led his team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds and 13 assists. His fellow American import power forward Marvin Phillips (203-83, college: Claflin) contributed with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Caen's coach Herve Coudray felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Sebastien Cape (184-93) answered with 28 points and 7 assists and Lithuanian forward Darius Tarvydas (200-91) added 15 points in the effort for Lourdes-Tarbes. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Caen moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Rueil. Lourdes-Tarbes lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the third position with ten games lost. They share it with St Vallier. Caen is looking forward to face Rueil (#6) on the road in the next round. Lourdes-Tarbes will play against Berck and is hoping to win this game.
