Regular Season Round 47: Toyama Grouses - Niigata Albirex 81-71

The game between Top Four teams took place in Toyama. Second ranked host Toyama Grouses (29-12) defeated 3rd placed Niigata Albirex (28-15) 81-71. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Niigata Albirex. The game was mostly controlled by Toyama Grouses. Niigata Albirex was better in second period 24-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 18 rebounds. His fellow American import Drew Viney (204-88, college: Loyola Mary) accounted for 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winning side. Four Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. American swingman Wayne Arnold (193-84, college: Tennessee St.) came up with 29 points and 5 assists and Jamaican-American power forward Ryan Reid (204-86, college: Florida St., agency: Comsport) added 20 points and 15 rebounds respectively for Niigata Albirex in the defeat. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Toyama Grouses. They maintain second place with 29-12 record behind leader Shimane SM. Niigata Albirex at the other side keeps the third position with 15 games lost. Toyama Grouses will again play against Niigata Albirex (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Niigata Albirex will have a break next round.
