Regular Season Round 48: Toyama Grouses - Niigata Albirex 72-59

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Toyama. Second ranked Toyama Grouses faced one of their biggest challengers Niigata Albirex. Host Toyama Grouses (30-12) defeated guests from Niigata (28-16) 72-59. Niigata Albirex was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. It was a good game for Joho Masashi (183-82) who led his team to a victory with 22 points and 8 rebounds. American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Four Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. American swingman Wayne Arnold (193-84, college: Tennessee St.) replied with 15 points and 7 rebounds and Jamaican-American power forward Ryan Reid (204-86, college: Florida St., agency: Comsport) added 14 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Niigata Albirex. Toyama Grouses have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 30-12 record behind leader Shimane SM. Niigata Albirex at the other side keeps the third place with 16 games lost. Toyama Grouses will play against Iwate Big Bulls (#6) on the road in the next round. Niigata Albirex will play against Tokyo Cinq R. and hopes to get back on the winning track.
