Regular Season Round 37: Panteras - Trotamundos 103-96

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Trotamundos (14-14) against fifth ranked Panteras (10-20) on Monday night. Visiting Trotamundos were defeated by Panteras in a tough game in Caracas 96-103. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Trotamundos won third quarter 31-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panteras made 31-of-39 charity shots (79.5 percent) during the game, while Trotamundos only scored eleven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Trotamundos 34-21 including 19 on the defensive glass. Trotamundos were plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. American Trey Gilder (206-85, college: Northwestern St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import forward Curtis Withers (203-84, college: Charlotte) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. At the losing side the former international Dwight Lewis (197-87, college: USC) responded with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international point guard David Cubillan (181-87, college: Marquette, agency: Pro Sports) scored 21 points and 9 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Trotamundos' coach Jesus Cordovez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Panteras maintains fifth place with 10-20 record. Trotamundos at the other side keep the third position with 14 games lost. Panteras will play against league's second-placed Bucaneros in La Guaira in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Trotamundos will play at home against Gigantes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
