Regular Season Round 50: Shinshu BW - Gunma 97-90

There was no surprise in Nagano where 9th ranked Gunma (19-25) was defeated by seventh ranked Shinshu BW (23-23) 97-90 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 27-22. But Gunma won second period 24-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Shinshu BW won last quarter 26-20. Gunma was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The game was dominated by American players. Power forward Xavier Gibson (210-88, college: Florida St., agency: Comsport) had a double-double by scoring 30 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and forward Michael Bell (206-82, college: Florida Atlantic) chipped in 21 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Four Shinshu BW players scored in double figures. Forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) responded with 45 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and power forward Mike St.John (203-84, college: La Salle, agency: Global Sports Plaza) scored 8 points and 14 rebounds. Shinshu BW have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain seventh position with 23-23 record. Gunma lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 25 games lost. Shinshu BW will have a break next round. Gunma will play on the road against Tokyo Cinq R. (#12) and hope to win that game.
