Regular Season Round 39: Panteras - Bucaneros 87-72

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Bucaneros (19-13) against fifth ranked Panteras (12-20) on Sunday night. Visiting Bucaneros were defeated by Panteras in Caracas 87-72. It looked good early as Bucaneros took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Panteras had a 21-14 second period charge getting the lead and Bucaneros were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-87. Panteras made 16-of-18 charity shots (88.9 percent) during the game. It was a good game for American Trey Gilder (206-85, college: Northwestern St.) who led his team to a victory with 31 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Colombian forward Jose Manaure (193-87) contributed with 22 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. American-Lebanese power forward Jarrid Famous (209-88, college: S.Florida) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds and the former international guard John Cox (194-81, college: USF, agency: Pensack Sports) added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Bucaneros. Four Bucaneros players scored in double figures. Bucaneros' coach Luis Guil tested ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Panteras have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 12-20 record. Bucaneros lost third consecutive game. They keep the second position with 13 games lost. Panteras will play against higher ranked Guaiqueries (#3) in Porlamar in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bucaneros will play on the road against Gigantes in Puerto Ordaz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
