The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Lobos UAD Mazatlan as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Lobos UAD Mazatlan defeated 5th ranked Tijuana Zonkeys at home 97-87. Lobos UAD Mazatlan made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American power forward Kourtney Roberson (206-90, college: Texas A&M) who scored 28 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import swingman Dwayne Mitchell (196-82, college: La-Lafayette) chipped in 27 points. Five Lobos UAD Mazatlan players scored in double figures. Canadian forward Marvell Waithe (205-87, college: Arkansas) produced 24 points and the former international point guard Franco Harris (182-83, college: Boise St., agency: Pro Sports) added 17 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Defending champion Tijuana Zonkeys keep the fifth place with six games lost. Tijuana Zonkeys will play next round against strong Rayos de Hermosillo trying to get back on the winning streak. Lobos UAD Mazatlan will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas on the road.
