Regular Season Round 28: EWE Baskets - Giessen 46ers 76-75
Date: April 3, 2016
Ninth-ranked Giessen 46ers (14-13) were very close to win a game against third ranked EWE Baskets (21-6) in Oldenburg on Sunday. EWE Baskets managed to secure only one-point victory 76-75. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Giessen 46ers. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-15. But Giessen 46ers won third quarter 19-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The winners were led by American swingman Rickey Paulding (196-82, college: Missouri) who scored that evening 23 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import Vaughn Duggins (190-87, college: Wright St.) supported him with 18 points. Even 15 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists by American guard Braydon Hobbs (196-89, college: Bellarmine) did not help to save the game for Giessen 46ers. Nigerian-American power forward Suleiman Braimoh (203-89, college: Rice) added 17 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for lost side. Giessen 46ers' coach Denis Wucherer tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. EWE Baskets have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 21-6 record having four points less than leader Brose Bask. Newly promoted Giessen 46ers keep the ninth place with 13 games lost. EWE Baskets will meet BG Goettingen (#17) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Giessen 46ers will play against Braunschweig (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
