Regular Season Round 26: Maccabi Ashdod - Hapoel Eilat 72-90

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Maccabi Ashdod (11-15) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Hapoel Eilat (13-13) 90-72 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Hapoel Eilat. Maccabi Ashdod was better in second period 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hapoel Eilat dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Maccabi Ashdod's 28. They outrebounded Maccabi Ashdod 44-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was international Elishay Kadir (202-87) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Nigerian power forward Alade Aminu (210-87, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Three Eye Sports) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds. Four Hapoel Eilat players scored in double figures. American power forward Charles Thomas (203-86, college: Arkansas) produced 36 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Isaiah Swann (188-85, college: Florida St.) added 12 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hapoel Eilat moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Maccabi Rishon. Maccabi Ashdod lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with 15 games lost. Hapoel Eilat will face Hapoel Tel-Aviv (#8) at home in the next round. Maccabi Ashdod will play against Maccabi Haifa and hope to win that game.
