Regular Season Round 6: Condores - Sabios 68-76

Date: April 12, 2016
Very important is a home loss of second ranked Condores (4-2) against seventh ranked Sabios (2-4) on Tuesday night. Host Condores were defeated by Sabios in a tough game in Cundinamarca 68-76. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Condores. Sabios dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Condores' 28. Canadian guard Ashton Smith (187-89, college: Indiana, PA) notched 24 points and 5 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) to lead the effort and forward John Velez (202-83, college: TCU) supported him with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Even 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists by the former international guard Stalin Ortiz (190-81, college: Valparaiso) did not help to save the game for Condores. American forward Byron Westmorland (193-90, college: Bowie St.) added 16 points and 7 rebounds. Condores' coach Tomas Diaz rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sabios moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Aguilas. Condores at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. Sabios will play against higher ranked Halcones (#4) in Cucuta in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Condores will play on the road against the league's second-placed Academia in Montana and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
