Top ranked Brose Baskets (26-3) recorded its third loss in Oldenburg on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked EWE Baskets (23-6) 102-97. It ended at the same time the 24-game winning streak of Brose Baskets. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Brose Baskets helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American center Brian Qvale (210-88, college: Montana, agency: Pensack Sports) who scored 31 points (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). The other American import guard Chris Kramer (191-88, college: Purdue) chipped in 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Latvian point guard Janis Strelnieks (191-89) who recorded 22 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and American guard Brad Wanamaker (193-89, college: Pittsburgh) added 23 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) respectively. Four EWE Baskets and five Brose Baskets players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. EWE Baskets have an impressive 11-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 23-6 record having just three points less than leader Brose Bask. Defending champion Brose Baskets still keep top place with three games lost. EWE Baskets are looking forward to face Deutsche Bank Skyliners (#4) in Frankfurt in the next round. Brose Baskets will play at home against Braunschweig and are hoping to win this game.
