Regular Season Round 28: Tochigi Brex - Hitachi SR 65-69

The most important game in the last round took place in Tochigi between second ranked Tochigi Brex (39-9) and fifth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (32-17) on Sunday night. Tochigi Brex was defeated by Hitachi Sunrockers in a tough game at home 65-69. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Tochigi Brex. The guests trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 69-65. Hitachi Sunrockers outrebounded Tochigi Brex 39-22 including 28 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hitachi Sunrockers made 8 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Joshua Heytvelt (210-86, college: Gonzaga) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks and the other American import guard Kevin Murphy (196-90, college: Tenn Tech, agency: Priority Sports) who added 15 points during the contest. At the losing side the former international guard Hironori Watanabe (180-88) responded with 23 points and 7 assists and American guard Tommy Brenton (196-89, college: Stony Brook) scored 2 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Hitachi Sunrockers moved-up to fourth place. Tochigi Brex at the other side keeps the second position with nine games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tokyo to the arena Toyota Alvark.
