Regular Season Round 26: Betanzos - Gijon 91-71

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 11th ranked Gijon (4-14) was rolled over on the road by twelfth ranked Betanzos (5-15) 91-71 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 57-33 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Gijon was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Jose Miguel Perez (202-96) had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Guillermo Pereiro (191-89) chipped in 17 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Forward Jorge Escapa (198-92) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and forward Edmundo Martin (204-91) scored 20 points. Five Betanzos and four Gijon players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Betanzos moved-up to tenth place in Group A-B, which they share with Rosalia. Gijon lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the twelfth position with 14 games lost. Betanzos will face Rosalia (#10) in Santiago de Camp. in the next round. Gijon will play at home against Estudiantes L. and hope to win that game.
