Regular Season Round 57: Gunma - Fukushima 82-79 OT

There was a minor upset when 6th ranked Fukushima (29-22) was edged on the road by ninth ranked Gunma (22-29) 82-79 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-15. But Fukushima won second period 19-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Fukushima used huge pressure winning it 15-14 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 8-11. American players dominated the game. The best player for the winners was forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) who scored 39 points (!!!). Power forward Mike St.John (203-84, college: La Salle, agency: Global Sports Plaza) chipped in 6 points and 10 rebounds. St.John is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Le'Bryan Nash (201-92, college: Oklahoma St.) who recorded 24 points and 8 rebounds and forward Bingo Merriex (206-80, college: TCU) added 10 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Four Fukushima players scored in double figures. Gunma maintains ninth place with 22-29 record. Loser Fukushima dropped to the fifth position with 22 games lost. Gunma will face again higher ranked Fukushima (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
