There was a surprise result when twelfth ranked Gijon (5-14) won against at home higher ranked Estudiantes L. (9-12) 70-54 on Saturday. The game without a history. Gijon led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Gijon forced 19 Estudiantes L. turnovers and outrebounded them 47-32 including a 31-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for center Diego Gonzalez (200-84) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 17 rebounds. Forward Jorge Escapa (198-92) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Gijon's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Forward Adrian Lopez (195-84) answered with 15 points and center Javier Prieto (203-90) added 5 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Estudiantes L.Gijon moved-up to eleventh place in Group A-B. Loser Estudiantes L. dropped to the eighth position with 12 games lost. Gijon will face higher ranked Vigren (#4) in Zamora in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
