Regular Season Round 28: Vigren - Gijon 82-81

Very predictable result when fourth ranked Vigren (14-7) edged 11th ranked Gijon (5-15) in Zamora 82-81 on Saturday. However just one-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Gijon won third quarter 26-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a very good performance for American forward Michael Balkovic (198-93, college: Caldwell, agency: Dynamics Global Management) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. Gabriel Vela (190-97) contributed with 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Five Vigren players scored in double figures. Forward Jorge Escapa (198-92) replied with 20 points and 9 rebounds and center Diego Gonzalez (200-84) added 6 points and 16 rebounds in the effort for Gijon. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Vigren maintains fourth position in Group A-B with 14-7 record. Newly promoted Gijon dropped to the twelfth place with 15 games lost.
