Regular Season Round 31: Maccabi Rishon - Maccabi Ashdod 93-83

Rather predictable result in Rishon Le-Zion where seventh ranked Maccabi Rishon (15-16) defeated 9th ranked Maccabi Ashdod (12-19) 93-83. It looked good early as Maccabi Ashdod took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Maccabi Rishon had a 27-18 second period charge getting the lead and Maccabi Ashdod was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 83-93. Strangely Maccabi Ashdod outrebounded Maccabi Rishon 42-27 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of international swingman Shawn Dawson (198-93) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. American power forward Darryl Monroe (201-86, college: George Mason) contributed with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American power forward Charles Thomas (203-86, college: Arkansas) answered with 27 points and 6 rebounds and the former international Or Solomon (201-93) added 11 points and 18 rebounds in the effort for Maccabi Ashdod. Four Maccabi Ashdod players scored in double figures. Maccabi Rishon moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Bnei Hertzeliyya. Maccabi Ashdod at the other side keeps the ninth position with 19 games lost. Maccabi Rishon's next round opponent will be higher ranked Ironi Nahariya (#4) at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Maccabi Ashdod will play against Ironi Nes-Ziona (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
