Regular Season Round 31: Hitachi SR - Mitsubishi DD 80-86

There was a minor upset in Tokyo where 5th ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (34-20) were defeated by seventh ranked Mitsubishi Dolphins (28-28) 86-80 on Wednesday. Hitachi Sunrockers trailed by 16 points after 3 quarters before a 28-18 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 80-86 at the end of the game. Strangely Hitachi Sunrockers outrebounded Mitsubishi Dolphins 41-26 including 32 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American forward Justin Burrell (207-88, college: St.John's) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Senegalese-French forward Amath M'Baye (206-89, college: Oklahoma) helped adding 16 points and 8 rebounds. Mitsubishi Dolphins' coach Reggie Geary used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. At the losing side American power forward Joshua Heytvelt (210-86, college: Gonzaga) responded with 26 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import guard Kevin Murphy (196-90, college: Tenn Tech, agency: Priority Sports) scored 23 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Mitsubishi Dolphins. They maintain seventh place with 28-28 record. Loser Hitachi Sunrockers keep the fifth position with 20 games lost.
