Quarter-Finals Round 1: Sendai 89ers - Akita NH 71-92

Akita Northern Happinets fired past Sendai 89ers in the quarterfinal series opener. The game without a history. Akita Happinets led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Akita Happinets outrebounded Sendai 89ers 48-29 including a 38-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. American swingman Richard Roby (198-85, agency: CGL Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and Canadian center Scott Morrison (213-86, college: Portland St.) chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Akita Happinets' coach Makoto Hasegawa felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American forward Terrance Shannon (203-90, college: VCU) responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures.
