Regular Season Round 18: Cimarrones - Piratas 80-63

Second ranked Cimarrones (13-5) crushed at home 8th ranked Piratas (2-16) by 17 points 80-63, which is the biggest margin this round on Saturday night. Cimarrones dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Piratas' 38. They outrebounded Piratas 52-30 including a 22-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Cimarrones looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Brandon Sperling (196-90, college: Humboldt St.) who scored 18 points and 9 rebounds. Power forward Cesar Cortes (200-81) chipped in 22 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Sperling is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Cimarrones' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Franklin Forbes (180) who recorded 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and American guard Brandon Givens (198-87, college: NC-Wesleyan) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Five Piratas players scored in double figures. Cimarrones maintains second position with 13-5 record having just two points less than leader Academia. Loser Piratas stay at the bottom place with 16 games lost. Cimarrones will meet Patriotas (#7) in the next round where they are favorite.
