There was a surprise result in Athens where thirteenth ranked Peristeri GS (7-13) defeated higher ranked Doxa Lefkadas (16-11) 59-54 on Saturday. Peristeri GS made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Doxa Lefkadas was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. British forward Robert Gilchrist (206-90, college: Florida St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and Dionysis Skoulidas (200-97) chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Sakis Karydas (182-79) responded with 13 points and 7 assists and forward Andreas Kanonidis (198-91) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Peristeri GS maintains thirteenth place with 7-13 record. Doxa Lefkadas at the other side keeps the fifth position with 11 games lost. Peristeri GS will have a break next round. Doxa Lefkadas will play at home against Psyhiko (#8) and hope to win that game.
