No shocking result in a game in Sao Paolo where second ranked Pinheiros (10-3) smashed bottom-ranked XV Piracicaba (2-11) 100-73 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Pinheiros. XV Piracicaba managed to win third quarter 30-28. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Pinheiros dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to XV Piracicaba's 30. They outrebounded XV Piracicaba 40-26 including a 30-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Pinheiros looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American guard Desmond Holloway (191-90, college: Co.Carolina) stepped up and scored 19 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and Germerson Barbosa (202-93) chipped in 19 points and 11 rebounds. Five Pinheiros players scored in double figures. At the losing side naturalized Lithuanian center Douglas Gorauskas (205-83) responded with 20 points and Fransergio Marques (190-81) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pinheiros maintains second place with 10-3 record having just two points less than leader Mogi das Cruzes. XV Piracicaba lost seventh consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with 11 games lost. They share it with Bauru. Pinheiros' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Sao Paolo to the arena Paulistano.
