Regular Season Round 2: Eanna - Swords Thunder 57-84

Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Dublin: Swords Thunder (#3) and Eanna (#8). Eanna was smashed at home by 27 points 57-84 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Swords Thunder made 18-of-23 charity shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 28 Eanna turnovers and outrebounded them 43-25 including 31 on the defensive glass. Swords Thunder players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Eanna's players. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Spanish center Jose Maria Gil (207-91, agency: Dynamics Global Management) notched a double-double by scoring 10 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the effort and Spanish point guard Alexander Calvo (180-91) supported him with 15 points and 4 assists. Five Swords Thunder players scored in double figures. Even 21 points and 8 rebounds by the former international forward Luke Thompson (190-94) did not help to save the game for Eanna. Brazilian forward Diogo Salazar (206, college: Georgia South) added 13 points for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swords Thunder's next round opponent will be UCC Demons (#4) in Cork. Eanna's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Dublin Templeogue.
