Regular Season Round 1: Breakers - United 76-71

Not a big story in a game in Auckland where United (0-2) was defeated by New Zealand Breakers (1-0) 76-71 on Friday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. United was trailing by 9 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 28-19 charge of New Zealand Breakers, which allowed them to win the game. New Zealand center Thomas Abercrombie (198-87, college: Washington St.) stepped up and scored 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and New Zealand guard Corey Webster (188-88, college: Lambuth) chipped in 11 points and 6 assists. At the losing side American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists and center David Andersen (213-80) scored 9 points and 5 assists. New Zealand Breakers will face Perth Wildcats (#5) on the road in the next round. United will play against Illawarra Hawks and hope to win that game.
