The game had a very big importance for eighth-ranked Gladiators as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (MLP Academics Heidelberg) loss. Gladiators smashed top-ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg in Trier 84-46. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of MLP Academics Heidelberg. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Gladiators made 16-of-17 charity shots (94.1 percent) during the game. Gladiators outrebounded MLP Academics Heidelberg 36-23 including 24 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Gladiators especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Brandon Spearman (190-91, college: Hawaii) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import John Eggleston (203-88, college: Pennsylvania) who added 8 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Spearman is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side American forward Devin White (203-88, college: SUNO) responded with 12 points and 5 rebounds and center Phillipp Heyden (206-88) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with 6 other teams including defeated MLP Academics Heidelberg. MLP Academics Heidelberg will play next round against Hamburg trying to get back on the winning streak. Gladiators will try to continue on its current victory against fifteenth ranked Titans at Dresden.
