Regular Season Round 23: Canarios - Santa Ana 110-61

Very expected game when 15th ranked Santa Ana (3-16) was smashed by second ranked Canarios (14-6) in Ahuachapan 110-61 on Tuesday. Canarios dominated down low during the game scoring 88 of its points in the paint compared to Santa Ana's 46. They outrebounded Santa Ana 47-33 including 33 on the defensive glass. Canarios looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Santa Ana's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Canarios made 12 blocks. Jamaica-American forward Devin Thompson (199-80, college: St.Peter's) orchestrated the victory by scoring 44 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds (on 19-of-23 shooting from the field). Costa Rican-Dominican forward Amaurys Ripool (196-86) contributed with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners. Tyrell Johnson answered with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds and Erick Gonzalez added 4 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Santa Ana. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Canarios maintains second place with 14-6 record having four points less than leader Santa Tecla, which they share with Quezaltepeque. Santa Ana lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth position with 16 games lost. Canarios will face San Miguel (#9) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Santa Ana will play against AV Bonilla (#16) in San Salvador and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
