Regular Season Round 7: CD Castro - Las Animas 85-86

The most exciting game of round 7 in the Liga Nacional took place in Castro. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 3rd placed CD Castro (4-4) to fifth ranked Las Animas (4-2) 86-85 in the game for the fourth place. CD Castro was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Las Animas made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. Strangely CD Castro outrebounded Las Animas 44-32 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. American center Terrell Taylor (203-81, college: Virginia Tech, agency: DTMones) fired a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. The former international point guard Franco Morales (179-92) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists. American forward Terrance Thomas (198-80, college: Baylor, agency: Interperformances) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import forward Tyrone Lee (204-90, college: Grand Valley St.) added 17 points and 15 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four CD Castro players scored in double figures. Las Animas moved-up to fourth place. CD Castro lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Las Animas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. CD Castro will play again at home against Las Animas (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
