Regular Season Round 9: Ryukyu GK - Nagoya DD 71-58

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Diamond Dolphins (7-2) in Okinawa on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked Ryukyu GK (6-3) 71-58. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Diamond Dolphins. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Ryukyu GK. Diamond Dolphins managed to win second period 14-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Ryukyu GK made 10 blocks. Swingman Shuhei Kitagawa (185-85) stepped up and scored 22 points for the winners and American power forward Lamont Hamilton (208-84, college: St.John's) chipped in 8 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. The best for the losing side was American forward Justin Burrell (207-88, college: St.John's) with 19 points and 9 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and international power forward Tenketsu Harimoto (198-92) scored 11 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ryukyu GK have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with SeaHorses. Diamond Dolphins at the other side still keep top position with two games lost. They share it with Toyota Alvark and Sanen. Ryukyu GK is again looking forward to face league's leader Diamond Dolphins in Nagoya in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Diamond Dolphins will have a break next round.
