Regular Season Round 8: Hitachi Cougars - JX-Eneos S. 49-93

Undefeated leader JX-Eneos S. delivered the sixth consecutive victory on Sunday night. This time they crushed 8th ranked Hitachi Cougars (2-4) 93-49 in Hitachinaka. The game was mostly controlled by JX-Eneos S.. Hitachi Cougars managed to win fourth quarter 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Hitachi Cougars to just 2 points in third quarter. JX-Eneos S. dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Hitachi Cougars' 22 and made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game, while Hitachi Cougars only scored 0 point from the stripe. They outrebounded Hitachi Cougars 47-23 including a 33-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. JX-Eneos S. looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Hitachi Cougars' players. Worth to mention a quality performance of international forward Yuki Miyazawa (181-93, college: Queens, NY) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 8 rebounds and the former international forward Yuka Mamiya (185-90) who added 16 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. Four JX-Eneos S. players scored in double figures. Guard Aya Tsurumi (164-92) responded with 6 points and 5 assists and power forward Chika Suzuki (183-93) scored 10 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. JX-Eneos S. (6-0) have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with a perfect record of 6 victories in a row, which they share with Toyota A. Hitachi Cougars lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with four games lost. They share the position with Haneda Vickies. JX-Eneos S. will meet Haneda Vickies (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hitachi Cougars will play against Denso Iris in Kariya and hope to secure a win.
