Regular Season Round 8: Niigata R. - Denso Iris 69-82

Bottom-ranked Niigata R. (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 82-69 loss to fourth ranked Denso Iris (5-1) in Tokyo on Sunday evening. Niigata R. was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Denso Iris made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. Niigata R. was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Maki Takada (183-89) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 15 rebounds. International center Sakura Akaho (182-96) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Four Denso Iris players scored in double figures. Swingman Sangi Kanade (169-86) produced 17 points and 5 rebounds and power forward Mei Chi (175-90) added 8 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Niigata R.'s coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Denso Iris have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Loser Niigata R. still closes the standings with six games lost. Denso Iris will face Hitachi Cougars (#9) in Hitachinaka in the next round where they are favorite. Niigata R. will play at home against Fujitsu RW and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
