Regular Season Round 5: FSU - Valur 94-90

There was no surprise in Selfoss where 5th ranked Valur (2-2) was defeated by third ranked FSU (4-1) 94-90. Valur was ahead by 5 points after three quarters before a 29-20 charge of FSU, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Valur's 48 and made 19-of-24 charity shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Valur 46-28 including 33 on the defensive glass. Valur was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Terrance Motley (201-91, college: Sam Houston St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 50 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. Point guard Ari Gylfason (186-89) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. FSU's coach Eloy Doce allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Forward Illugi Audunsson (196-92) answered with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and center Birgir Petursson (205-86) added 17 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Valur. FSU have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Fjolnir. Valur at the other side keeps the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with Breidablik. FSU will play against Breidablik (#6) in Kopavogur in the next round. Valur will play at home against Hamar and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
